A residential garden in East Toowoomba documented in 2023 and again in 2026, showing how its planted spaces have established and matured.
Photographed three years apart, this garden offers a rare view of landscape design beyond handover. The later images record the pergola, lawn and verandah areas; the earlier set documents the courtyard, decomposed granite and corten edging.
The landscape layout plan identifies the property as Kirkwood Residence, 48 Campbell Street, Toowoomba. It organises the garden around the existing house, studio and carport, with corten-faced concrete retaining walls topped with timber seats, a new deck and raised garden, paved paths and a ramp, and new timber steps.
Practical elements sit alongside the planting: water tanks, a new shed and chook pen, a garden arbor and a small water feature. Existing trees and garden areas were kept where possible and supplemented with new planting, so the garden matures from an established base rather than starting from scratch.
Comparing the 2023 and 2026 photographs shows that maturing — planting filling out around the hard landscape, and the materials weathering into the garden as intended.
