Yas Hotel, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
The Yas Hotel is located on the Formula One Grand Prix circuit on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The landscape surrounding hotel building is all constructed on a podium level over the race track. Essentially green roof landscape construction which included the planting of over 50 mature palms, numerous water features and large open lawns catering for outdoor functions and the viewing of the racing events. Design challenges included achieving sufficient planting depth, irrigation and drainage to support healthy plant growth on the podium deck.
Gerard Canavan provided post contract landscape construction services on this project during his time with Dubai based landscape architecture firm Cracknell.
Movenpick Hotel Al Ain, UAE
The Movenpick Resort and Spa is a 430 key 5 star resort development on the outskirts of Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. The development included a convention centre with extensive visitor carparking areas, guest hotel tower and private villas, 4 swimming pools, tennis courts, kids crèche, restaurants and bars, wedding function lawn, mini golf course, pedestrian and buggy trails, water features and staff accommodation. The site presented a significant design challenge with the development traversing it’s over 50m height difference requiring numerous retaining walls and innovative measures to achieve equitable access for pedestrian pathways.

Sharjah Beach Resort, Sharjah
Sharjah Beach Resort development in the United Arab Emirates included extensive beach front swimming pools with a distinctive wet edge design also incorporating spilling urns and a stepping stone bridge as feature elements within the pool area. The pool area design also included lightweight shade structures protecting lounge areas around the pool deck. Other landscape design features include Main entry drive and porte cochere, kids sand pit and adventure play area, roof terrace pool areas and entertainment spaces.
